Tessa’s Travels – Taunton Library

tessas travels bannerA regular blog where Tessa travels the highways and byways of the South West meeting people from all walks of life and Introducing them to the Mindline Family of Mental Health Helplines.

Santa’s little helpers were present at Taunton Library on 4th December. Lynda and I pitched up in the Wellbeing Zone sharing the space with the wonderful Memory Group. There is great news in these reading groups have now been funded to be held in other Somerset libraries as well.

Mindline Xmas Jumpers

Santa’s little helpers – Lynda and I dressed in our Christmas garb.

Lynda ‘worked the crowd’ in the café area with Time To Change Somerset’s Mental Health Quiz and chatted with many library visitors and had many conversations triggered by the quiz or some on a more personal level. We received some fantastic feedback which we have shared with you below.

I put ‘I don’t know’ for a couple of questions because I really don’t know and it felt disrespectful to guess. I am happy to support any efforts to ensure mental health is as well treated and understood as physical health.
I think ‘mental’ problems are caused by the pace of life, particularly with working parents having less time with their children. Also Social media can cause stress and misery for youngsters. Others have problems because of introspective personalities. I also think more help should be available from health professionals etc.
I feel I should know all the answers but It did make me think!

As always, the staff at Taunton Library were fantastic and welcoming, not least the gentleman in the café who initially refused to serve an elf but then thought better of it!! A big thank you to you all.
