Wells Moat Boat Race

tessas travels bannerA regular blog where Tessa travels the highways and byways of the South West meeting people from all walks of life and Introducing them to the Mindline Family of Mental Health Helplines.

Mindline promotionWe couldn’t have asked for better weather for this fun event. The City of Wells Lions invite local charities to pitch up and raise awareness and funds for their causes and in grounds of the Bishops Palace, Wells. The Moat Boat Race is a hilarious and ridiculously competitive boat race consisting of a flotilla of homemade rafts racing on the moat. Mind TWS had prime position just by the walkway through to the moat where the real action was taking place. Although the waft from the hog roast right next to us was not ideal for my friend, colleague, and vegetarian Rachel who gave up her time to be there to help. However, the homemade Victoria sponge and lemon drizzle cake soon made up for it.

We had a lot of interest with many people taking our Mindline cards along with a wide selection of our Mind information pamphlets. There was interest from several local councillors most of whom knew about Mind TWS and Mindline and recommend our services to clients. It was heart-warming to talk to families wanting information to support family members with particular mental health diagnosis and we were able to provide information and signpost them. There was some interest in people wanting to do voluntary work. Glastonbury FM were there and gave Mindline a shout out. Yay!! One of the many highlights was watching the Bishop of Bath & Wells paddling frantically for his team, although we must confess the Hot Fuzz themed boat was our personal favourite.

The whole day was good humoured, colourful, noisy and fun.
